Family Heirlooms: worth Restoring??
Questions I pose for folks trying to make this decision involve a visual evaluation of their piece, telling them all I can tell them about the piece I see before them. I often ask “where it came from” and “what they know about it” just to see if there may be any clues available in their description for supporting my visual cue’s as to what it is and about how old it is, etc.. Common indications of good quality furniture include types of wood and construction methods, joinery and overall condition—how its held up over the years of love and use.
After evaluating the physical object and gathering all I can from my customers recollections, I propose different levels of care and treatments for the item, giving them budgetary options to consider for the preservation of their family treasures. I will do all I can with the budget they allow to save what I believe to be historical artifacts of our past, so they can be kept functional and handed down through the generations to come as being something special to their family.
If you have family treasures, or anything you would like to see become such for your heirs, please call me and lets talk about the possibilities!
